POVERTY IN THE UNITED STATES
Poverty may never be completely eliminated. The policies in place as well as those in the future are there to alleviate the pain and suffering of
daily life. In 2007 a Global Poverty Act was proposed, it passed the Foreign Policy Committee but was not passed by the Senate. This policy
would focus on alleviating world poverty (Obama's Global Poverty Act, 2007). The American people are dependent on Social Security and
Welfare to help supplement their incomes. Reductions in these programs will be detrimental to the American people.
America faces problems with rapidly changing economy; increasingly diverse and contentious population, growing dangers to the environment
which threaten the health of it's people; and a declining popular faith in its ability to deal with these problems. The United States of America
remains one of the most stable, resilient, and wealthiest nations in the world. Perhaps Americans will somehow face up to and meet those
challenges and, in the process, once again live up to their democratic professions-life, liberty, and justice for all. Only the future will tell (Trattner,
2012).
